Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR): Through the AVRR programme, IOM offers a dignified, safe and cost-effective return option for migrants who are unable or unwilling to remain in host countries and wish to return voluntarily to their countries of origin.
IOM’s AVRR services include assistance in transit and reception on arrival; pre-departure and post-arrival provision of information, counselling and referral services; onward transportation to final in-country destination; provision of immediate and longer-term reintegration assistance; and medical assistance.
Counter-Trafficking: Human trafficking is a human rights violation of persons affected and has a long history within and from Afghanistan for various purposes. IOM is implementing a multiyear project in Afghanistan funded by USAID to strengthen the prevention of human trafficking, protect victims and improve response through a holistic approach.
The project is implemented in partnership with the Government of Afghanistan and NGOs, and seeks to achieve these key objectives: 1) National stakeholders respond more effectively to cases of human trafficking, including strengthening protection of Victims of Trafficking in high-risk communities; 2) Relevant stakeholders develop and sustain partnerships and adopt mechanisms necessary to better coordinate cross-border counter trafficking activities; 3) Target populations regularly demonstrate protective behaviours, including practicing safe migration and seeking help through appropriate channels.
