Post-Arrival Assistance: IOM provides vulnerable, undocumented Afghans returning from Iran and Pakistan with immediate humanitarian post-arrival assistance. This assistance can include transportation from the border to their final destination via a transit center, where returnees receive short-term accommodation; the provision of Non-Food Item (NFI) relief kits; and other support, such as medical care or family tracing, according to IOM’s vulnerability criteria.
Reintegration: Equal emphasis is placed on the need to assist returnees beyond the moment they have reached their final destination. Communities in Afghanistan hosting large numbers of returnees are targeted for reintegration assistance activities to improve their stability and absorption capacity. Reintegration initiatives include vocational training courses, the construction of permanent shelters for vulnerable returnee families and the construction of community infrastructure.
